Tinubu Approves New Appointment

The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. According to the statement, the appointment takes effect from January 23, 2025, and is for an initial four-year term.

Aliyu has been serving as Acting Managing Director of the agency since March 2024 before his confirmation.

Extensive Experience in the Energy Sector

With over 20 years of experience, Aliyu has worked extensively in energy and organisational development across both the private and public sectors. He has played key leadership roles in on-grid and off-grid power projects, as well as in water resources and transportation.

Before his appointment, he served as:

Head of the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project

General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research

Deputy General Manager at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET)

Driving Rural Electrification and Energy Sustainability

The Presidency expressed confidence that Aliyu’s expertise will drive the REA’s mandate to expand reliable electricity access to rural communities.

The statement added that his leadership is expected to contribute significantly to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and power development in Nigeria.
