Staffers of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti have commended the proactive measures put in place by the Rector for making available a bus to convey staff of the Polytechnic to and from the Institution during this period.

The Dr. Tcmilope John Alake led Management team in order to alleviate the hardship being experienced by staff as a result of the removal of oil subsidy which has necessitated the increase in pump price has proactively stepped in. This increase in pump price has had a significant impact on the cost of transportation, which has gone up by about 300% thereby making it difficult for staff to come to work from their various homes.

Statement by the head, PIPR, Mr. Kayode Adebusuyi says, to mitigate the hardship, a high capacity bus has been designated to ply the town to the campus on a daily basis at the subsidized cost of N100 for staff as against the N300 being charged by transporters for the same trip.

Engr. Emmanuel Adubi, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) stated that the Management’s intervention at this critical time was commendable and applaudable. He is indeed the people’s Rector and like Oliver twist more is still expected of him.

Also, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), of the Polytechnic, Comrade Sunday Akomolafe described the gesture as Humanistic and commended Dr. Alake for his welfarism agenda. The Rector, he noted is indeed the man of the people who has the interest of all at heart and was ready to do anything within the ambit of the law to ensure the welfare and wellness of staff at all times.

In the same vein, the Immediate Past Secretary of the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), of the Polytechnic, Comrade Maxwell Awoyemi showered encomium on the Rector for ameliorating the hardship being experienced by staff.

He noted that the Rector, being a former Unionist, understands the plight of the average Nigerian worker and that they are proud of him. He believes Dr. Alake has started well and knows that he will surely end well.

A cross section of staff interviewed also expressed their appreciation to Dr. Alake for deeming it fit to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal by subsidizing the staff cost of transportation to and from the campus.

They further appreciated him by praying for more wisdom, understanding and knowledge as he continues to pilot the affairs of the Polytechnic.
