A significant milestone was made again on Saturday,18th May, 2024 towards gender equality and economic empowerment in Karumajigi community, Abuja as Priscilla Ekwueme Elene Empowerment Initiatives (PEEEI),conducted a tailoring induction programme with the motive of empowering young girls with valuable skills and opportunities for economic advancement.
The event which was organised by Kids & Teens Centre, Marvelous Foundation took place at Musminat Fashion House in Karumajigi, Abuja, had seven enthusiastic young girls inducted into six months tailoring training programme under the esteemed and capable hand of a Trainer and the Founder of Musminat Fashion House, Hajia Amina Musa, to equip the girls with necessary skills and knowledge needed to pursue successful career in tailoring.
Speaking at the event, Hajia Amina Musa, expressed gratitude to the organiser of the programme by acknowledging the impact of PEEEI on the entire Karumajigi community as she emphasized the importance of engaging out-of-school girls. She promised to ensure that the girls receive comprehensive training.
According to Hajia Amina Musa, “tailoring induction programme is just the beginning of PEEEI’s effort to empower women and girls in Karumajigi. As the girls embark on the six months training programme, PEEEI remains committed to providing continuous support and mentorship to ensure their success. At the end of the programme, the most outstanding participant will be awarded a sewing machine to further support her entrepreneurial endeavours”. She explained.
Also, the CEO of Kids & Teens Resources Centre, Mr. Martinmary Falana said they believe in investing in the skills and talents of young women, saying it is essential for driving sustainable development and fostering gender equality in the community.
“Through the initiatives like this, we aim to create pathways to economic independence and empowerment for women and girls as promised during the 2024 International Women’s Day, organized by kids & Teens Resources Centre and Marvelous Foundation which took place on March 8th this year at karumajigi Community”.
The initiative represents a crucial step forward in the empowerment of women and girls in the Karumajigi community, and PEEEI looks forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on the lives of the seven aspired tailors.
Both Both Mr Martin Mary Falana CEO K & T Resources Centre and Mrs Beatrice Oduniyi member of the Board of Trustees of PEEEI, were on ground to oversee the induction process and offer words of encouragement to the young girls.
Mrs. Oduniyi in her own admonition for the inductees emphasized the importance of dedication and commitment to their training. She harped on the transformative power of acquiring new skills and recounted how her mother who she described as a self-taught tailor was able to train her children through her own business. She therefore urged the girls to show determination in their learning.
In the course of the induction, all the girls expressed their determination and eagerness to excel in the field of tailoring with the pledge to make good use of the opportunity.
