The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, has attributed the internal opposition against him to his close relationship with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Anyanwu made this claim following the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, which nullified the judgment that removed him from office. His position had been contested by Sunday Udeh-Okoye.
In an interview with The Nation, Anyanwu dismissed threats by some PDP members to leave the party if he retained his role, calling them mere speculation.
He said, “Several of those who appear to be against me are only fighting a proxy war because of my relationship with Wike, who remains my bosom friend. I cannot abandon my friends because of politics.”
Anyanwu also noted that he played a key role in facilitating the emergence of many PDP governors, signing their nomination papers without demanding anything in return.
On speculation about PDP joining a coalition, he insisted, “PDP is too strong to be a mere part of any coalition. Rather, people should join PDP.”
