The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has officially announced its departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, the decision was said to have been reached unanimously during its monthly meeting held in Ilesa, with stakeholders from all 332 wards in the state in attendance.
The statement cited alleged marginalisation, arbitrary suspension, and expulsion of members without fair hearing as some of the reasons behind the decision. The group also expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the APC’s poor handling of internal crises, which it claimed weakened the party’s structure and contributed to its recent electoral setbacks in Osun State.
“The members were subjected to a voice vote, and they unanimously agreed to align with another political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election,” the statement read.
Speaking during the meeting, Aregbesola, who also served as Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Interior, commended the members for their unwavering commitment to the principles of integrity, character, and good governance.
He described the group’s exit from the APC as the beginning of a new journey toward achieving responsible leadership in Osun State.
“I am delighted that we have all spoken with one voice—united in our determination to chart a better course for the future. This is the start of a new chapter aimed at ensuring the prosperity of our beloved state through purposeful and accountable leadership,” Aregbesola stated.
He further urged members to remain resolute and attract like-minded individuals ready to support the group’s vision for Osun’s development.
“Our mission is clear: to elevate Osun to a position of greatness. The path ahead is promising, and we are confident of success. Let us remain steadfast and work together to deliver leadership that will make Osun the pride of the nation,” he added.
The group assured supporters that ongoing efforts to reposition the Omoluabi Progressives would soon yield positive results. Aregbesola emphasised that the group remains open to individuals across political, religious, and socio-cultural lines, with the goal of fostering unity and driving sustainable development in the state.
