Mrs. Uchechi Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has commended the apologies tendered by her husband’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In a statement on Sunday, Uchechi described Agabi as a respected legal figure whose approach was necessary to ease tensions surrounding Kanu’s trial. She noted that the senior lawyer’s move aimed to clarify past disputes and foster dialogue.
At the resumed hearing, Agabi apologised on behalf of Kanu to Justice Binta Nyako, the prosecution team, and his legal representatives, acknowledging that his client had been angry for a long time. He described Kanu’s verbal attacks on the judge and federal prosecutors as regrettable.
Uchechi further noted that Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the latest hearing, also expressed regret over the prolonged delay in Kanu’s trial, acknowledging the challenges he had faced.
She emphasised that Agabi’s intervention was necessary to restore decorum and ensure a smoother legal process for her husband’s case.
