Nigerian Footballer Dies After Collapsing During Tournament

Adewale, a 29-year-old player for the Ilesa West Local Government football team, reportedly slumped on the field during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final at Ataoja School of Science. He was immediately rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

The spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued on Thursday.

“During the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old player of the Ilesa West Football team, slumped on the pitch. He was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor,” the statement read in part.

Opalola added that investigations into the incident have commenced, and the body of the deceased has been deposited in the hospital morgue.

Further details about the cause of death are yet to be disclosed as authorities continue their inquiry.
