New Alaafin, Owoade Denies Abandoning Traditional Rites

Speaking on Friday, the team’s spokesperson, Bode Durojaiye, described the reports as both misleading and deceptive, aimed at tarnishing the integrity of the revered Alaafin throne.

“This headline is designed to mislead the public and misrepresent the esteemed Alaafin throne,” Durojaiye stated, emphasizing that the content of the report contradicts its sensationalised headline.

He clarified that Oba Owoade has not yet commenced the traditional rites for his coronation, which is scheduled to take place on April 4, 2025.

“It is impossible for the Alaafin to abandon rites he has not even begun. The report itself admits this timeline,” he noted, highlighting the inconsistency in the publication’s claims.

Durojaiye further stressed that the Oyo State Government is fully aware of Oba Owoade’s movements and stands in support of his decisions, dispelling rumors of discord over his absence.

“Once traditional rites begin, they must be completed without interruption. Tradition demands strict adherence to this process,” he reiterated.

Explaining the reason behind the monarch’s current trip, Durojaiye revealed that Oba Owoade returned to Canada to address professional responsibilities ahead of his coronation. “This trip is in line with the timeline, ensuring everything is in place before the historic event,” he added.

He also called on the media to be more responsible in their reporting on cultural and traditional matters, urging respect for Nigeria’s rich heritage.

“We must honor our cultural identity and the values that define us as a people. Misrepresentation of such matters only undermines our traditions,” Durojaiye concluded.
