The National Assembly has shifted its resumption date from January 28 to February 4, 2025, to allow sufficient time for the ongoing budget defence by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This was disclosed in separate statements issued by the Clerks of the Senate and the House of Representatives in Abuja.
In an internal memo dated January 24, 2025, and addressed to Senators, the Clerk of the Senate, Andrew Nwoba, stated: “Please be informed that there is a change in the resumption date due to the ongoing budget defence. It has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 28th January 2025, to Tuesday, 4th February 2025, at 11:00 am prompt.”
Similarly, the House of Representatives announced the postponement in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., titled, “House of Representatives Postpones Resumption of Plenary to Tuesday, February 4, 2025.”
The statement read in part: “The postponement is necessary to allow Committees sufficient time to conclude ongoing budget engagements and defences with MDAs. This measure ensures a thorough and comprehensive approach to legislative responsibilities.”
It added that the decision was conveyed through an internal memo issued by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on the directive of the House leadership.
Both chambers assured Nigerians of their commitment to delivering on their legislative mandates and appreciated stakeholders’ understanding of the development.
