Mohbad’s Widow, Father Clash Over DNA Test for Paternity Resolution

This conflict arose after a Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, advised the parties on July 9, 2024, to explore alternative dispute resolution, which failed to yield an agreement. Subsequently, the court ordered a DNA test to be conducted at a mutually agreed laboratory in Nigeria, with appointed officers supervising the process.

Allegations and Counterclaims

Omowunmi, represented by Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, rejected Joseph Aloba’s choice of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for the test. In a letter dated January 9, 2025, Omowunmi stated that while her suggestions of Lagoon Hospitals were also declined by Aloba, she proposed The Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospitals as alternatives.

However, Aloba did not respond to these suggestions. Omowunmi’s legal team criticized the inaction, accusing Aloba’s lawyer, Taiwo Odumosu, of spreading misinformation on social media by claiming she was unwilling to proceed with the DNA test.

Omowunmi also alleged that Aloba defamed her son on social media, portraying him as illegitimate. She threatened to conduct the DNA test independently if the delays persisted, promising to publicize the results.

Response from Aloba’s Counsel

In a response dated January 11, 2025, Aloba’s former legal representative, Hillceetee Partners, denied the allegations. They clarified that Odumosu’s media statements were misinterpreted and reiterated that the delay was due to pending responses from the suggested hospitals.

The law firm further announced its withdrawal from representing Aloba in the matter, leaving the case in uncertainty.

Next Steps

Omowunmi has maintained her readiness to resolve the issue and called for a swift resolution. If the delays continue, she may proceed with conducting the test independently and inform the court accordingly.

This ongoing dispute underscores the importance of legal clarity and swift resolution in family matters.
