Man Sentenced For Violating Traffic Offences In Ebonyi

A 39-year-old man, Earnest Chukwumaobi has been sentenced to  30 days imprisonment on Tuesday,  by a Mobile court of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)  in Abakaliki, Ebonyi for violating traffic offences.

Chukwumaobi whose address was not disclosed, is facing charges of violating road traffic and assault on FRSC personnel.

He however pleaded not guilty and explained that he was rushing to meet up with an emergency.

The defendant pleaded for mercy, adding that he has no lawyer.

The Prosecutor, Mrs Joyce Okoche told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 14, along Abakaliki-Enugu expressway, axis of the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching, Abakaliki.

She explained that the defendant unlawfully drove against traffic, thereby committed offence punishable under the road safety Act of 2007.

”The defendant assaults the FRSC officers on duty. After he moved further and invited men of the military, who came and took our personnel to their barrack.

“Our personnel were finally released by the military with intervention of our Sector Commander, Uche Chukwurah,“he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Anthony Nwusulor in his judgment, said the court was instituted to ensure justice to all citizens and sentenced the defendant to  30 days imprisonment.
