A 58-year-old Lagos magistrate, Olasanmi Ogunkanmi, has reportedly passed away, just hours after returning from a three-week holy pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
According to reports, the late magistrate, who was also a pastor, slumped and died on the same night he returned. However, other sources claim he died peacefully in his sleep.
Ogunkanmi had participated in the pilgrimage with the first batch of Lagos pilgrims before his sudden death on January 1, 2025.
During a condolence visit to the late magistrate’s Ikorodu residence on Friday, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, described Ogunkanmi’s passing as providential.
He told the widow, “It was not an accident that late Magistrate Ogunkanmi died the night he successfully returned from performing the holy pilgrimage in Jerusalem. The occurrence makes his death providential.”
The bishop further added, “Your husband lived a well-fulfilled life on earth. It is not how long one lives that matters, but how well.”
The late magistrate’s demise has left family, friends, and colleagues in mourning, as tributes continue to pour in.
