Governors Meet to Discuss National Issues Amid Tax Bill Controversy

Fifteen governors, mainly of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were present at the meeting as of the time of filing this report.

The gathering included two opposition governors: Alex Otti of Abia State from the Labour Party (LP) and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

While the specific agenda of the meeting remained undisclosed as of press time, it is believed that the controversial tax reform bills introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration were a key focus. These reforms, which have been submitted to the National Assembly, have faced strong criticism and opposition.

Governors across the country, under the National Economic Council (NEC), have expressed concerns over the proposed reforms.

Similarly, northern governors have publicly rejected certain provisions of the bills, calling for their immediate withdrawal.

The NGF meeting reflects the growing tensions surrounding the administration’s fiscal policies and their implications for governance at state and national levels.
