The Director General of Media and Communication to Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature has revealed that he took measures to evade arrest by the police.
Speaking on Saturday during the PR Nigeria Young Communication Fellowship in Kano, Bature recounted how he stayed at the Kano State Government House for five days to avoid being apprehended by officers of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Team.
According to Bature, at least 40 police officers were deployed to Kano six days prior, with specific orders to arrest him.
He stated that his stay at the Government House was protected by constitutional immunity, which prevents arrests within the premises without the governor’s approval.
Bature disclosed that he secured a court order restraining the police from arresting him. While addressing the audience, he explained his decision to attend the event despite the looming threat.
“There was a petition against me that is being handled directly by the IG. He sent 40 officers from the Monitoring Team to Kano with the sole aim of arresting me. But I came out today because of three reasons: I didn’t want to miss this important event, I have obtained a court order restraining my arrest—which I believe they’ve seen—and I am confident in my fortification to resist any attempt to arrest me,” he said.
During his address, Bature also emphasized the significance of mentorship for young professionals, highlighting its potential to unlock various opportunities for personal and professional growth.
