The Senate has confirmed the appointment of environmental specialist Saviour Enyiekere as Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), along with 11 other members.
The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service during Wednesday’s plenary.
However, the nomination of Nnanna Kalu, the Southeast representative and younger brother of former Abia Governor Orji Uzor Kalu, was put on hold pending an investigation by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.
The confirmed members are:
South-South: Saviour Enyiekere, Patrick Giwa, Mrs. Mary Ekpeyong
North-West: Suleiman Hunkuyi, Yusuf Yusuf
North-East: Aminu Malle, Alhaji Mahmud
North-Central: Mark Terso, Salihu Balogun
South-West: Taiwo Oluga, Afeez Ipesa-Balogun
South-East: Festus Odii
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, assured the Senate of the appointees’ competence and credibility.
Senator Seriake Dickson (PDP-Bayelsa) commended the committee for a thorough vetting process but highlighted the exclusion of Bayelsa State from the commission, calling for greater fairness in regional representation.
