All is now set for this year’s Matriculation Ceremony to formally admit the new intakes of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, at the event holding at the expansive Sports Complex of the Institution on Friday, 28th April, 2023.
In line with academic tradition, the Matriculation Ceremony will hold to formally induct the freshmen admitted into the various programmes ND I and HND I levels of morning and evening programmes for the 2022/2023 Academic Session, which calendar commenced late last year.
Aside from the oath-taking ceremony and signing of the Matriculation Register by the matriculants spread across the 36 Academic Department, about 60 Rector’s Scholars, who came top of their ND I and HND I classes during the 2021/2022 Academic Session, will also receive their Award Certificates and attached monetary Scholarship at the ceremony.
Declaring open the Freshmen Orientation Programme on Wednesday 26th April 2023, the Rector, Dr. Temitope Alake advised the students to place high premium on their studies “over and above any other activities on Campus as this will enhance the fulfilment of your cherished dreams in the nearest future”.
The Rector who gave the advice also counselled the fresh students to meticulously learn the tips and necessary information to be dished to them by carefully selected speakers, who would address themes that proactively meets their varied physical, psychological, emotional, social and security needs.
Dr. Alake, while assuring the freshmen of the Management’s interest in enduring students welfare, urged them to visit the core offices that have been put in place whenever they are faced with any teething challenges which may divert their attention from their primary purpose on campus.
The Rector emphasized on the need for the fresh students to also involve themselves with the extra-curricular activities such as sports competitions, health seminars, skill acquisition programmes and other acceptable social clubs, to keep them mentally alert and socially responsible.
Dr. Alake further stated that acquiring entrepreneurial skills and relevant trainings in Information Communication Technology (ICT) would go a long way, as their certificate alone without any additional skill cannot put enough food on the table.
He therefore counselled the fresh students to be their brothers’ keeper, be security conscious, respect all members of staff and eventually make their parents and the Institution proud at the end of their studies in the Polytechnic.
In her welcome remarks at the two-day Orientation Programme, the Registrar, Mrs. Kehinde Ekanem urged the students to make the best use of the golden opportunity and time accorded them by preparing hard for a productive future.
She also encouraged them to take advantage of the well equipped facilities and various programmes put in place to smoothen their campus life and make their studentship sojourn productive and enjoyable.
Mrs. Ekanem further encouraged the students to dress responsibly and smartly, abide by the Institution’ rules and regulations, study hard and carve a niche for themselves through outstanding academic performance in order to benefit from the numerous honorary awards.
Giving the vote of thanks at the end of the first day of the Orientation programme, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Sunday Olajide appreciated the Management for organising such orientation programme for the benefits of the Fresh Students.
Dr. Olajide charged them not to be swayed by evil practices, but develop themselves and be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic both within and outside of the Institution.
Highlights of the Orientation Programme were the selected lectures given by seasoned facilitators from both within and outside the Polytechnic, such as the Relevance of Digital Library to the Students, Administrative set-up of the Polytechnic, The Bursary, Importance of Guidance and Counselling, Social Vices and Cultism on Campus, Security Tips, among other lectures.
