Energy management through the use of energy saver has been suggested by Engr. Ademola Agoro (FNSE), as an alternative way to reduce its consumption and  for users to pay less.

This was the submission of Engr. Agoro who was a sponsor and guest lecturer at the Public Lecture organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ado-Ekiti branch, held in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital with the theme, “Solar Energy Development Towards Energy Security In Nigeria Power Sector”.

According to the distinguished lecturer who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Protogy Global Services Limited , “most houses today are wasting energy and they are paying for things they shouldn’t have paid for. They should try  as much as possible to use energy saver in their houses, reduce their consumption for them to pay for less energy consumption” Agoro advised.

Engr. Agoro, who stated that the objective of the lecture was to find a way to solve the power problem in Nigeria using renewable energy source  explained that solar technology is in abundance in Nigeria, saying he has been able to let the whole world know that with the proper usage of the solar technology and right regulations and support from the government, “we can have energy security through solar power technology”.

“In Nigeria today, we have over forty – three million homes. If we are able to deploy ten kilowatts tier 1 solar system into all those houses and we are able to deploy that to only five hundred thousand homes, that will give us five thousand megawatts. Nigeria is struggling today with about four thousand megawatts. So there is a need to look at the solar technology to solve all these problems”

He therefore urged the government to encourage the deployment of solar, especially residential and the rooftops solar.

Also, the State Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ado-Ekiti branch, Engr. Oluwasegun Oluyemi Aluko, while speaking with journalists, explained that Engineers have a role to play by informing the populace.

In his word, “There are lots of things the public is doing the wrong ways and the engineers have the role to inform and one of the ways by which we inform the public is through the public lectures.

“One of the things the guest speaker pointed out was that from solar energy, we can generate as much as twice or more of what the nation generates currently at a much more reduced rate compared to what the government is spending on power generation, transmission and distribution.

“All that it requires is that the houses should have solar panels on their roofs and these solar panels should be joined to the national grid and once that’s done, then we can have improved energy supply particularly during the day to serve offices, industries, though small scale industries and other places”. The Chairman explained.

Dr. Aluko opined that some of the problems we are all facing are things we could solve by ourselves without necessarily having to depend on government completely at all times to solve these problems even though the government has its own role to play to make the solution work and sustainable. “But the masses also can take some initiatives”. Aluko added.

The lecture was well attended by the Engineers in Ekiti State, Corp members and dignitaries from all walks of life.
