EXODUS IN RIVERS STATE: Barrister Wike’s Political Machinations Under Scrutiny

By Joy Mordi

This orchestrated exodus is slated for Thursday, 14th, and Friday, 15th December 2023, marking a potentially turbulent period in the state’s political landscape.

Anticipation is growing, with reports of some youths preparing for a showdown with the intending defectors. The overarching motive behind these maneuvers appears to be a calculated move to undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his supporters.

Observers and the general public in the state are growing weary of the unfolding drama, directing blame squarely at Barrister Wike for allegedly disrupting the flow of governance in Rivers State. The emergence of various interest groups further exacerbates the situation, raising concerns about potential confrontations and violence.

On Wednesday, numerous youth groups unequivocally expressed their endorsement for governor Fubara,  commending the substantial representation of youths in his government. Additionally, they issued a stern warning , making it cleat that they will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the authority of the duly elected governor of the state

In response to the escalating tensions, eminent indigenes of the state, both at home and abroad, are urgently calling on President Tinubu to intervene. Speculations abound, suggesting that the President’s silence may be interpreted as tacit support for Barrister Wike’s purported manipulation of political affiliations within the APC. Critics argue that the jockeying for position in the 2027 elections is premature and risks destabilizing the political landscape.

As of Wednesday this week, some youth groups in the state have issued stern warnings, vowing to resist any attempts to further suppress their Governor. Rivers State finds itself on the precipice, with the populace feeling increasingly unsafe as political maneuvers unfold. The coming days will undoubtedly be crucial in determining the direction of the state’s political climate.
