The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council has appealed to the newly elected National and State Assembly lawmakers in the State to collaborate with the State Governor at ensuring the development of the Ekiti.
NUJ made the appeal in the communique issued at the end of March edition of its monthly Congress held at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.
Congratulating the newly elected legislators in the State, the members of the Pen Profession also used the occasion to plead with the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to consider an experienced media professional for the position of Commissioner for Information to further foster the relationship between government and the people.
Commending the Governor for the facelift given to the office of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ and his overwhelming support for journalists, the union also sympathizes with the victims of rainstorm and flood in Ekiti State, calling on the state government to take necessary action to prevent residents from building on water ways and dumping of refuse in drainages as such factors contributes to flood cases.
While calling on government to mandate the filling stations and business institutions to allow customer to transact with POS and that those who fail to comply be sanctioned, The Journalists also welcome the establishment of Customary Court of Appeal noting that it will enhance quick dispensation of justice.
At the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, was equally commended for his display of professionalism and building mutual relationship between the media and government. Just as the Union congratulates a member, Dr. Bola Agbaje over her elevation to the post of the General Manager of Radio Nigeria, Progress FM, Ado Ekiti, and wishes her success in the task ahead.
