Ekiti to Hold Environmental Sanitation on Saturday

This month’s theme, “Clean Environment, Healthy Living,” underscores the critical connection between environmental cleanliness and improved public health outcomes.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin-Aluko Ajisafe, has called on residents to actively participate in the exercise. She urged market traders to clean their shops and stalls during the Thursday market sanitation, while government workers were reminded to tidy up their offices and surroundings on Friday.

To accommodate the ongoing 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External), there will be no restrictions on movement during the sanitation period. This measure aims to allow students, supervisors, and officials to access their examination centres without interference from law enforcement agents.

However, all markets and commercial establishments will remain closed during the sanitation hours to encourage maximum participation. Environmental health officers, security agents, and non-governmental organisations will monitor the exercise to ensure compliance and effectiveness.

Commissioner Ajisafe reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean environment, highlighting its role in fostering better health and a safer, more sustainable future for the state. She called on all residents to embrace the exercise as a step towards a healthier Ekiti.
