The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has warned against illegal collection of fees by any public primary school in the state.
Prof. Akinwumi gave the warning in Ado Ekiti at a workshop organized for Directors, Deputy Directors and Education Secretaries in the State Universal Basic Education Board.
He said that the 4 – day workshop being facilitated by NIEPA-NIGERIA was organized to equip the SUBEB officials with the latest digital skills on BESDA Attendance Management Information System (BAMIS),
The SUBEB boss added that the workshop is aiming at proper monitoring of pupils attendance in schools through the aid of digital technology in order to ensure continuous availability of pupils in their respective schools to justify government’s Commitments of huge resources into basic education programmes in the state.
While charging the Participants particularly the Education Secretaries to always be on their toes for regular monitoring of public primary school activities, Prof. Akinwumi promised to set up a task force to enforce the schools monitoring exercise.
He stressed that Ekiti State is the second state in Nigeria to organize such training and commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji – led administration for the various intervention programmes in the basic education sector which have put the state ahead of others in records of achievements in public primary schools across the state.
He therefore called on Heads of Schools to desist from unauthorized collection of fees in order not to tarnish the good reputation of the state government in its efforts to providing free and qualitative education to all pupils across the state.
Prof. Akinwumi urged the beneficiaries who also received a computer tablet each to avail themselves the opportunity to add value to the basic education programmes in the state.
He said they could recall that similar workshop was recently organized for public primary school teachers where the state government distributed no fewer than 1,145 smart tablets for the purpose of monitoring teaching – learning process.
Earlier, the Head of Department, Training at the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeromi said the training was to impact knowledge on digital monitoring of school activities, teaching – learning process and pupils – teachers attendance.
