The Ekiti State Government has approved the immediate implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage, including consequential adjustments, for workers in the state civil service and local government. Payments will commence in November.
Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, the State Head of Service, disclosed this during the official signing of the payment table at the Governor’s Office Conference Hall in Ado-Ekiti.
Key stakeholders present at the event included the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Kolapo Olatunde; the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr. Sola Adigun; Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) Chairman, Mr. Femi Ajoloko; the State President of NULGE; representatives of the Accountant General’s office, and the Commissioner of Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun.
Dr. Olomojobi explained that a 13-member committee had worked for months to finalize the new salary structure, which has been approved by Governor Biodun Oyebanji. She highlighted that the ₦70,000 minimum wage sets a high standard compared to other states, as it accommodates consequential adjustments across all worker categories in both state and local government services. Pensioners will also benefit from the increase.
She praised workers for their patience and trust in the current administration and urged them to demonstrate diligence and commitment in their duties.
Labour leaders at the event commended the state government for introducing one of the most favorable wage structures in the South-West. They assured workers across Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Parastatals, and local government offices of the comprehensive coverage of the new wage.
They also expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for prioritizing workers’ welfare and encouraged civil servants to reciprocate by supporting the government’s developmental initiatives.
Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, the Commissioner of Information, described Governor Oyebanji as a leader who keeps his promises. He assured citizens that the administration would continue to implement strategies aimed at economic growth and improving the well-being of Ekiti residents.
