The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has been commended for his giant strides in the implementation of good policies and execution of transformation agenda that care for the yearnings of the Pensioners, Senior Citizens and the Public Servants across the State in the recent times.
Chairman House Committee on Public Service Matters, Establishments and Human Capital Development, and the Minority Leader of the House, Hon Oladele Ogunsakin stated this during a 2-Day oversight activities of the Committee on Ministries, Departments Agencies, and Commissions in the State.
The two days working visits availed the Chairman and members of the Committee the opportunity to interface with the bureaucrats in the Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Office of the Head of Service, House of Assembly Service Commission, Ministry of Capacity Development and Reforms, Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment among others, all in Ado Ekiti, the State capital.
Hon Ogunsakin said various intervention programmes and policy of the administration of Governor Oyebanji has impacted positively on the lives of the people in the State, particularly the Public Servant and the Pensioners.
“We are not oblivious of the trend of experience of self-worth and achievements of the workforce in the State with regards to service matters, adding that the various initiative programmes put in place by government have gone a long way in cushioning the effects of the economic hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.
At the Office of the Head of Service, Hon. Ogunsakin spoke extensively on the reasons for taking the oversight functions to the Office of the Head of Service and other regulatory agencies in the State.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Ekiti East Constituency 1 and the Minority Leader of the Assembly, at various establishment visited by the Committee, emphasized the position of Section 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria (as ammended) in regard to conduct of legislative oversight and procurement of evidence.
He reiterated that the Committee would continue to engage the Stakeholders at regular intervals, noting that the present Government will not leave the peculiarities in the service to the Commissions alone urging the Public Servants in the State to reciprocate the good gestures of the Governor.
In his remarks, the Head of Service of Ekiti State, Engineer Sunday Komolafe briefed the Committee on the various efforts of government at repositioning the public service towards enhancing an improved and efficient service delivery.
Engineer Komolafe said the Public Servants in the State have been given high considerations in the scheme of things as he listed the achievements of the administration to include regular payment of salaries and pensions, increased fund for payment of gratuities and pensions, wage award, provision of palliatives, approval in principle of outstanding promotion of 2022/2023, digitalization of data and records keeping in the Civil Service among others.
In all the offices visited by the Committee, vital issues relating to the welfare of workers topped the agenda of discussions as the Agencies used the occasion to commend the Seventh Assembly for maintaining good relationship with other arms of government.
The Chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Kayode Fasakin thanked the Assembly for their support for the commission. Similarly, his counterparts in the Local Government Service Commission and the Civil Service Commission, Chief Samuel Abejide and Sir Olubunmi Famosaya (mni) all commended the Assembly for supporting the government to achieve thus far.
