Court Orders Mechanic To Sweep Police Station For Attempting To Steal

A Dei-Dei-dei Grade I Area Court uas ordered a 65-year-old mechanic, Rafiu Kosa to clean the Zuba Police Station for seven days for attempting to steal.

Kosa was sentenced after pleading guilty to vagabond and theft, preferred against him by the police.

The judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman, while delivering judgment said he considered Soka’s age in his sentencing and also gave him an option of N2,000 fine.

Suleiman warned Soka to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes adding that if he was brought to court again, he would face the consequences.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu  Ogada told the court that the complainant, Divine Ojoh reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on April 27.

Ogada said that the complainant parked his Toyota car at Madalla Area, for him to go to the market across the road to ease himself.

He added that Kosa opened the complainant’s car, started it and was about escaping with it, then the complainant shouted ” thief” and Kosa was caught in the process.

The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened sections 405 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Soka whom pleaded guilty said that the complainant was his customer and earlier gave him his vehicle to repair and did not have money to pay him.

” I stole the car to take it to Madalla Police Station to park it there but I got arrested by the vigilantees at Madalla,” Kosa said.

He however begged the court in tears to tamper justice with mercy , explaining that the car was recovered from him and he would not repeat it again.
