Court Grants Police Officer, 3 Others  N1m Bail Over Alleged Malicious Damage, Breach Of Peace

A Magistrates’ Court 2, sitting at Ede on Monday granted N1 million bail each to four accused persons over alleged malicious damage of a shopping complex under construction and breach of peace. 

The accused are: a police officer serving at Eleyele, Ibadan, Ademola Olagunju, alongside Bayo Olagunju, 56, Lateef Olagunju, 44, and Akeem Olagunju, 40.

The Prosecution counsel, Insp Lamidi  Rasaq, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired with others at large to commit the offence at Babawale  Street, Wakajaye Road, Ede.

Lamidi said , “in March 2020 and July, the defendants were alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously damaged a shopping complex under construction by pulling down the structure valued at N10 million 

“The defendants in July, while being armed with dangerous weapons, such as gun and cutlasses forcibly gained entry and attempt to reclaim a property in possession of Alhaji Adebowale and Alhaji Buhari Nasir and their household. 

“The defendants allegedly conducted themselves in a manner to cause breach of peace as they combed the entire area, moving around openly displaying dangerous weapons.

“They threatened violence and caused terror to Alhaji Adebowale and Alhaji Buhari and their household,” Lamidi said.

He said the offence contravened Sections 80, 81, 451 and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Osun State  2003.

The Magistrate, Mr V. A. Adedokun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each for each defendant in like sum, alongside their electricity bill.

Adedokun, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Nov.1, for hearing.
