By Super Blessing

Filani, known for hosting the widely followed programme “OWUYE,” was accused in 2021 of raping a 19-year-old pregnant woman named Bukola OJO.

The official charge alleged that on December 8, 2021, Filani unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the woman without her consent at the Celestial Church of Christ, Deliverance Parish, Akure, under the pretext of spiritual healing, violating section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Additionally, Filani faced an indecent assault charge for allegedly touching the woman’s private parts against her will, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Filani’s defence counsel, Mr. Adelanke Akinrata, filed a motion for his discharge and acquittal, citing insufficient evidence linking Filani to the alleged crimes. Justice Kuteyi, after reviewing arguments from both sides, agreed with the defence and ruled that the evidence was insufficient to support the charges.

As a result, the court dismissed the charges and discharged Filani.

The Veteran Journalist expressed relief at the verdict and gratitude to God for vindicating him.
