The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has matriculated 7000 students for a combined 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions.

Speaking at the matriculation exercise in Lafia, Nasarawa, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof Shehu Abdul-Rahman, cautioned the new students against any form of misconduct.

The VC said that all forms of anti social groups are banned at the two campuses of the institution and the students villages around the university.

He explained that cult groups are prohibited and any student found indulging in activities of any cult group would be expelled.

“If any of you is already a member of any cult group before securing admission to the university, renounce your membership and voluntarily present yourself for counseling, rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.

“Do not succumb to pressure or any threat by a person or group of persons to join any anti social group and reports such threat and pressure to the management for prompt action,” he said.

Prof Abdul-Rahman further directed members of staff to prevent improperly dressed students from lecture halls and entering offices.

The VC also directed the security personnel at the institution to arrest students who dressed indecently for necessary sanction.

He encouraged all students to dress according to acceptable standards.

“Undue exposure of body parts that have the potential to infuriate the sensibilities of others would be severely sanctioned,” he added.

The vice chancellor congratulated the students and urged them to be fully committed to their studies to justify their parents and government investments in them.

Abdul-Rahman guaranteed adequate security at the two campuses of the institution and appealed to all students to report any suspicious activities to appropriate authorities for onward action.

He appealed to parents and guardians to support the management of the university to train their children in both character and learning throughout the period of their studies.

While speaking with our correspondent, miss Comfort Ukpoju of Business Administration Department, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity and her parents for the sponsorship.

She, however, promised to be law abiding and work assiduously towards achieving academic excellence to justify her parent’s support.
