Due to deplorable condition of Federal roads across the federation, a Human Right Activist, Comrade Bolawa Akindolie has threatened to approach a competent court of jurisdiction and institute a court action against the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA)
The Ondo town-based activist in a later dated 16th of September, 2022, a copy which was made available to our correspondent, lamented over the worsen and deplorable condition of the popular Ondo/Ore as well as Ondo/Akure roads.
The letter which was addressed to the Director General of FERMA, Engr. Nurudeen Abdurahman, gave the Federal Agency two weeks ultimatum to as a matter of urgency embark on massive repair of the roads which he said is in deplorable condition.
The Human Activist equally stressed the needs for the Federal Government to include the popular Ore/Ondo highway to the list of its numerous ongoing road construction projects across the federation.
In the letter, Akindolie, equally threatened to lead other Human Right Activist and some youths to stage a protest on the road, apparently to show their displeasures over the worsened condition of the roads.
According to him, “the age long Ondo/Ore road which was constructed in 1960 shortly after Nigeria Independence is outdated and old enough to be reconstructed, apart from the damage portions that have resulted into accidents and claim many lives on daily basis”
“FERMA, has completely abandoned the roads, for example in Aponmun community along Ondo Akure highway, sometimes last year, the agency embarked on soundfilling of the potholes, but later abandoned it half way, this is one of the reasons am instituting a court action against the agency” he stated.
Lamenting over the bad state of the Ondo/Ore road, the activist noted that apart from affecting the economic activities of the area, he explained that several lives had been lost in fatal road accidents occasioned by the poor condition of the road.
