AfDB President, Adesina Denies Interest in 2027 Presidential Race

Recent media reports suggested that Adesina hinted at contesting in a recent interview. However, he has clarified that his statement was misinterpreted.

In a post on his X handle, he stated, “A segment of my recent interview on @ARISEtv has been both misinterpreted and misrepresented in several Nigerian media outlets. For clarity, I did not say that I am running for the office of President of Nigeria.”

Adesina, whose tenure as AfDB president ends in May 2025, had also distanced himself from similar speculations ahead of the 2023 elections.

The former Minister of Agriculture under President Goodluck Jonathan was first elected AfDB president in 2015 and re-elected in 2020.
