HANDING OVER The Completed Building Back To The School Principal.
I Went Back To Mary Immaculate School For 12 Days as a LONE RANGER In Nov 2023 – 40 years after I left the school In 1983.
Before Renovation
In Sept 1978 when I arrived at the School as a teenage boarding student, I was allocated into Boys Hostel with other young, fresh students. I went back to the school 40 years after, with the intention of giving back in a little way on anything that will have “Direct Impact/Impactful Project” on the present students. No gimmicks! No window dressing! Idiscussed my plans and intentions with the current Principal, guess what? She allocated the same building I once occupied as a teenage student on my first day as a boarding student 45 years ago to be rescued, made safe and brought back to former glory.
There was an instant reconnection with the building as It brought back lots of my teenage year memories. I was there for 12 days, 9:00am to 5:00pm to make sure my team of builders delivered a good work and to prevent them cutting corners.
The project is divided into 3 Phases, we just finished the 1st Phase. Health and Safety of the students in that building are guaranteed now. The 2nd and final Phase will commence very soon. The pictures here speak volumes.
One of the happiest days of my life- interacting with the young/teenage students for 12 days and telling them my own experience when I was the same age bracket with them 45 years ago. The building has been completely refurbished and made safe for students and teachers now.
After Renovation
Glory be to God Almighty for qualifying the unqualified to give back..
May I, most humbly, remind us of the christian song that says; “Only remembered by what we have done”, and God, by His grace, has put us in a position to be able to leave one legacy or the other on our alma mater, both individually and collectively. The legendary Bob Marley once sang a song; “live for yourself, you will live in vain, live for others, you will live in gain”. And, corroborated by the words of the Bible in Eccl. 11: 1-3, we should know that whatever we do ultimately comes back to us.
May I on this note, enjoin very passionately, that we begin to embark on projects that will impact directly on the well-being of current and future students of our great school. The Holy Writ assures that one of us can chase a thousand, and two of us ten thousand. I am assured that God has put us in a position to be trail blazers. And, we can do better as a one united group! And, we are well able!
Long live Class Of ‘83!, long live Mary Immaculate School!
