11TH ASSEMBLY: Lawan Re-Elected As Speaker In Borno

Abdulkareem Lawan (APC-Guzamala) has been re-elected as Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly for the fourth consecutive time.

Lawan was unanimously re-elected in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Assembly after a proclamation of the 11th Assembl in Maiduguri.

The Speaker was nominated by Gambomi Marte, (APC-Marte) and Seconded by Abba kyari-kolo, (APC-Jere) in the State House of Assembly.

Lawan, who is the most ranking member of the House, has created a new record as the longest serving member and speaker in the history of the state Assembly.

He has been in the House since February 9, 2012 till date. 

Lawan was born to the family of Alhaji Lawan Umar of Guzamala Lawanti ward of Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno.

He attended Guzamala Primary School from 1977 to 1982 and obtained first leaving school Certificate, before proceeding to Government Secondary School, Kukawa (1983 – 1988) where he obtained his Senior School Certificate.

From 1992 – 1993, He was at the Staff Training Centre, Konduga, between 1992 and 1993, and obtained Certificate in Office Practice and Procedure.

Lawan attended University of Maiduguri, where he bagged Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Public Administration in 2003 and 2007, B. Sc Sociology and Anthropology and M. Sc Sociology from the same institution.
