Ise/Orun Local Government on Thursday celebrated the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a dual focus on honouring fallen heroes and showcasing ongoing community development projects.
The ceremony featured addresses from the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ayodele Samson Bamikole, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Corps Major Asolo Modupe Ojo.
Hon. Bamikole used the occasion to highlight major projects implemented in the local government under his administration, stressing that the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has delivered tangible results across health, power, ICT, agriculture, and security sectors.

On health, the Chairman showcased the rehabilitation of a long-abandoned comprehensive health center along Old Emure Road, now equipped with medical facilities valued at over ₦14 million and set for commissioning by the governor. He noted that the facility will enhance healthcare access for residents, reflecting the administration’s commitment to community welfare.
In power and digital development, Bamikole revealed that electricity was restored to communities after years of blackout caused by vandalized infrastructure. Damaged lines were replaced and relocated for safety. He also inaugurated one of the most functional ICT centers in Ekiti State, capable of training at least 30 students at a time in computer literacy and digital skills.
On agriculture and local economy, he announced the establishment of a poultry facility to boost internally generated revenue and support food production. Additionally, motorcycles were procured to strengthen security operations and facilitate better coordination among local enforcement agencies.
In his address, the Chairman Nigerian Legion, Ise/Orun Corps Major Asolo Modupe Ojo, during the occasion explained that the importance of the programme cannot be over-emphasized.
“The fallen Hero’ are no more with us, but their families and dependants left behind are with us. These people require our care and support. The Veterans that survive the first and Second World War, the victims of the Nigeria Civil war also require our support. While some of them are still losing their lives in the course of combating the insurgency of Boko Haram, kidnapping and bandit ravaging some areas of the Northern part and all over the country.
“On security, Ise/Orun Legion will beef up its security duties to supplement the Law Enforcement Agents in the Local Government. He pledged.
“As you all know, no organization could achieve his/her objective without funds. Therefore, I seize this opportunity on behalf of the Nigeria Legion Ise/Orun to express our profound gratitude and appreciation to the Legion Patron, The Executive Chairman of Ise/Orun LG. Hon. Ayodele Samson Bamikole for huge amount of money giving out to make this occasion a reality”, said the legion Chairman.
However, he appealed to Hon. Ayodele to provide them an office where they can be having meetings claiming that where they currently use is not conducive for them.
The ceremony concluded with both Samson and Ojo reaffirming their commitment to veterans’ welfare, community development, and security. They called on citizens to embrace unity, support local initiatives, and honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, while ensuring that the council continues to thrive socially, economically, and digitally.
