Plateau Gov Mutfwang Defects to APC, Pledges Inclusive Leadership

Mutfwang made this known on Friday in Jos when he received his APC membership card, marking his official exit from the PDP, the platform on which he was elected governor.

The APC State Chairman, Mr Rufus Bature, presented the party’s membership card to the governor at a brief ceremony attended by party leaders and supporters.

Addressing the gathering, Mutfwang said his decision to join the APC was taken in the overall interest of Plateau State, stressing that the move was aimed at fostering unity, stability and accelerated development.

He assured residents that his administration would remain inclusive, adding that the change of party affiliation would not affect his commitment to serving all citizens, regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences.

Describing the defection as a “journey of faith,” the governor expressed confidence that Plateau State would benefit from what he called the new political alignment.

Mutfwang acknowledged that the decision might attract scepticism in some quarters, but urged the people to exercise patience and judge his action by the outcomes of governance.

He also called on residents to remain united, assuring those who may feel apprehensive that his administration was focused on collaboration and collective progress.

The governor used the occasion to appreciate members of the PDP for providing him a platform to begin and advance his political career, noting that he remained grateful for their support over the years.

Mutfwang also thanked President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his concern and goodwill towards Plateau State, pledging to support the president’s re-election bid in 2027.

Political observers say the governor’s defection represents a major shift in Plateau State’s political landscape and is likely to reshape alignments ahead of future elections.
