The lawyer to popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, has said the withdrawal of a court case challenging the process of selecting the next Awujale of Ijebuland does not mean his client has stepped down from the race.
Speaking in a telephone interview on Wednesday, Ayinde’s counsel, Dr Wahab Shittu (SAN), explained that the decision to discontinue the suit was a tactical move to allow for proper planning and strategy. He said KWAM 1 remains actively involved in the contest for the revered traditional stool.

According to Shittu, the legal team decided to pause court action in order to gather more information and take necessary preliminary steps before proceeding further. He stressed that the withdrawal was aimed at avoiding mistakes and ensuring that the case is properly handled when refiled.
Earlier, KWAM 1 had filed a notice of discontinuance dated December 22, 2025, before an Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, asking the court to strike out the suit he instituted against the Ogun State Government and others over the Awujale selection process.
Confirming the development, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, said the Fuji musician withdrew the suit shortly after the court declined to grant an interim injunction to stop the selection process. He said the application for discontinuance would be formally addressed on January 14, the next adjourned date.
KWAM 1 had earlier declared interest in the Awujale stool, claiming lineage from the Jadiara Royal House within the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. However, the ruling house rejected his claim, insisting that the musician does not belong to the royal lineage and is traditionally associated with the Fidipote ruling house, a claim often referenced in his music.
