Govt Shuts Hotel, Mortuary After Grisly Discovery of Decomposed Bodies

Authorities confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye.

According to the police, the action followed an operation targeting kidnapping and violent crime syndicates along the Owerri Aba Expressway. The exercise was led by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, in collaboration with community stakeholders.

Investigators said the raid was triggered by credible intelligence on the activities of a wanted suspect, Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, who is still on the run.

Police officers visited a hotel and a privately operated mortuary linked to the suspect. Both facilities were allegedly being used as hideouts for kidnappers and other criminal groups.

Findings at the mortuary revealed several decomposed and mutilated bodies stored in dirty and unsafe conditions, which raised strong suspicion of illegal harvesting of human organs.

Government officials immediately ordered the hotel and mortuary to be closed. A search of the suspect’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of important exhibits needed for further investigation.

The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police assured residents that all individuals connected to the crime would be tracked down and prosecuted.

He also announced that Stanley Morocco Oparaugo has been declared wanted and urged anyone with information to report to the nearest police station.

Security has been reinforced along the Owerri Aba Expressway as part of broader efforts to tackle violent crime in the area.
