Nigeria’s population management system got a new leadership boost on Wednesday as President Bola Tinubu sworn in the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission, Aminu Yusuf, along with two commissioners.
At the brief ceremony, which formed the opening session of the Federal Executive Council meeting, cabinet members watched as the president administered the oath of office on the appointees.

Earlier in October, the Senate had screened and confirmed Yusuf from Niger State as the new NPC Chairman, while Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonga Betara Bularafa from Yobe State were also cleared as commissioners.
Also sworn in on Wednesday were five permanent secretaries who recently received presidential approval for their appointments across various ministries.
Yusuf’s appointment received the nod of the Council of State last month, paving the way for his assumption of duty.
He succeeds Nasir Isa Kwara, who had led the commission since 2020 and supervised several key preparatory activities toward the postponed national census.
With Wednesday’s swearing in, the new NPC leadership is expected to continue ongoing reforms and advance the commission’s preparations for Nigeria’s next population and housing census.
