Adedamola Wins PDP Governorship Ticket After Adeleke’s Exit

His emergence followed the withdrawal and formal resignation of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the PDP on the eve of the exercise, leaving Adedamola as the sole contender.

Announcing the results, Humphrey Abba, chairman of the electoral committee, said 20 of the ballots cast were declared invalid. He affirmed that Adedamola, having scored all the valid votes, was duly elected as the party’s flagbearer.

Committee secretary, Sunday Solarin, explained that despite Adeleke’s resignation, his name appeared on the ballot because the notice came too late for any amendment. He said the committee could not redesign and reprint new ballot papers after Adeleke’s departure was announced on Monday night.

He, however, reminded delegates before voting that only Adedamola remained in the race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed August 8, 2026 as the date for the Osun governorship election.
