The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called for united efforts to locate Yahaya Farouk, a corps member who recently went missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
During a visit to the community, Brig. Gen. Ahmed urged residents, particularly youths and elders, to collaborate with security agencies in the search for the missing corps member. He also inspected the scene of the incident and underscored the importance of host communities in ensuring the safety and welfare of corps members posted to their areas.
Speaking on his administration’s commitment to enhancing security measures for NYSC participants nationwide, he said, “I am here to appeal for assistance in locating the corps member who came to serve this nation from another state. My administration will continue to advocate for improved security and welfare for all corps members. It is also the responsibility of host communities to ensure the safety and well-being of those serving in their domains.”
During a meeting held as part of the visit, Youth President Etete Jerb Anthony and Ward Secretary Paul Friday revealed that the community had already undertaken significant efforts to locate Farouk, who reportedly disappeared while at a Chinese mining site in the area. They assured the NYSC chief of their continued commitment to the search and rescue mission.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of corps members, prompting renewed calls for improved security in host communities.
