Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has spoken about the emotional challenges she faces away from the public eye, revealing that she sometimes breaks down in tears despite maintaining a cheerful personality in public.
The actress made the revelation during an interview with CNN, where she discussed the pressures of fame, public scrutiny of her personal relationships and the need to protect her emotional well-being.

Akindele explained that people often see her smiling and entertaining audiences but may not realise the personal struggles she experiences behind closed doors.
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life,” she said.
The filmmaker, who has built a strong reputation in the Nigerian entertainment industry through acting and film production, acknowledged that public attention can sometimes make personal challenges more difficult to handle.
She also recalled moments when public criticism made her question some of her decisions, particularly when she considered how people might react to her choices.
“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she said.
However, Akindele said she had learnt to confront difficult moments, regain her confidence and continue with her life rather than allow public opinion to define her.
Her remarks highlight the emotional demands that can come with being a public figure, especially for celebrities whose personal decisions and relationships often attract public attention.
Beyond managing criticism, the actress stressed the importance of self-care and maintaining meaningful relationships with loved ones while pursuing professional ambitions.
Akindele is also preparing for the cinema release of her new movie, The Four, scheduled for December. The project is expected to add to her growing body of work as one of Nollywood’s prominent actresses and film producers.
