Ado Poly SUG Secures Reduction in Hiked Tuition Fees after Talks with Management

In an official memorandum dated October 29, 2026, and jointly signed by the SUG President-elect, Comr. Okunlola Damola Elijah (Ase Oro), General Secretary-elect, Comr. Raji Sodeeq Akanni (Tanmola), and P.R.O.-elect, Comr. Olamidipupo Tobiloba Festus (Aguero), the Union said the engagement with the Rector and management was aimed at ensuring students’ concerns were adequately presented and addressed.

According to the statement, the meeting which had in attendance Faculty Presidents and other relevant stakeholders, yielded a positive outcome with a downward review of the fees for both fresh and returning students.

For fresh students in Schools of Engineering (SOE), Environmental Studies (SES), Technology (SOT), Agricultural and Allied Technology (SAAT), as well as OTM and Mass Communication, the fee was reduced from N124,500 to N113,500, representing an N11,000 cut.

Fresh students in the School of Business will now pay N107,400 instead of the earlier proposed N118,200, a reduction of N10,800.

For returning students, those in SOE, SES, SOT, SAAT, OTM and Mass Communication will now pay N72,500 as against the earlier N78,900, while returning students in the School of Business will pay N66,800 instead of N72,400, representing N6,400 and N5,600 reductions respectively.

The SUG leadership described the outcome as a testament to the power of constructive engagement, dialogue, unity and collective representation, appreciating the Rector, Deputy Rectors, Registrar, Bursar, Dean of Student Affairs, Student Affairs Officer, Faculty Presidents and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the negotiation.

The Union urged students to remain calm, united and hopeful, assuring that it remains committed to protecting their welfare and pursuing their interests through peaceful and responsible engagement.

“This is a testament to the power of collective voices and responsible leadership,” the statement added.
