Tinubu Performs Umrah in Makkah, Prays for Nigeria’s Peace, Unity

Tinubu performed the religious rites early Friday morning at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on October 30, 2026.

During the spiritual exercise, the President circumambulated the Holy Ka’abah in worship and thanksgiving, offering prayers for Nigeria and its citizens.

Speaking with journalists after completing the pilgrimage, Tinubu described the exercise as significant to his commitment to the country, its people and his faith.

“I believe this Umrah is very significant for the love of our people, commitment to the job and our country, Nigeria; commitment to the will of Allah that His words must prevail, and that there’s no other God but Him and He’s the only one that makes a human being what he can be and what he would be in life,” the President said.

He said he was grateful to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to perform Umrah and pray for the country.

“I am grateful to Allah for being able to perform this Umrah. We have just prayed for our nation, for everyone to live in peace and harmony, happiness and faith in God Almighty,” he added.

The President’s prayers focused on sustainable peace, national stability and stronger relationships among Nigerians, irrespective of their religious and ethnic backgrounds.

He also sought divine guidance for leaders at all levels of government, asking Allah to grant them the wisdom to steer the country towards greater stability and development.

Tinubu further prayed for an end to insecurity and other challenges confronting the country, expressing hope that Nigeria would achieve lasting peace and improved living conditions for its people.

The President also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic and social prospects, saying he hoped the country would continue to make progress towards prosperity, development and a more secure future.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous nation where Nigerians could live safely and enjoy dignity, regardless of their faith or background.

Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. It involves a series of religious rites, including circumambulating the Ka’abah at the Grand Mosque.

Tinubu’s visit to Saudi Arabia provided an opportunity for the President to undertake the spiritual exercise and offer prayers for Nigeria amid the country’s security, economic and social challenges.
