President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday swore in six newly appointed Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission, NPC, at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The commissioners sworn in are: Hon. Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi, Ekiti State; Hon. Suleiman Umar, mni, Jigawa State; Prof. Sadiq Isa Radda, Katsina State; Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, Kwara State; His Excellency Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo, Sokoto State; and Rt. Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu, Zamfara State.

The new commissioners were later received at the NPC Headquarters, Abuja, for a brief welcome ceremony.
The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, represented by the Acting Chairman and Federal Commissioner for Bayelsa State, Hon. Mrs. Gloria Izonfuo, mni, said the appointments were a significant milestone for the Commission’s leadership and operational capacity.
“Today marks an important milestone in the life of the National Population Commission as we warmly welcome our new Honourable Federal Commissioners representing Sokoto, Kwara, Ekiti, Zamfara, Jigawa, and Katsina States,” she said.
“Their appointment by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reflects the confidence reposed in their competence, experience, and commitment to national service.”
Mrs. Izonfuo stressed the strategic role of the NPC in national development, noting that it is the principal agency for population and housing censuses, civil registration, and demographic surveys.
“The data generated by the Commission provide a critical foundation for evidence-based policymaking, equitable resource distribution, and efficient service delivery. Your inauguration comes at a time when accurate and reliable population data is more crucial than ever,” she said.
She charged the new commissioners to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity, and collaboration, and assured them of management and staff support.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya thanked President Tinubu and the Commission for the opportunity to serve.
“We are honoured by this national call to service,” he said. “Each of us has taken time to familiarize ourselves with the Commission’s operations, and we are ready to contribute our best to move the NPC forward.”
The NPC Director-General, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, in his vote of thanks, commended the president for the appointments and described the new commissioners as individuals of proven competence and character.
On March 30, 2026, President Tinubu approved the appointment of seven Federal Commissioners for the NPC, including the reappointment of Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo of Sokoto State for a second term. The appointee from Bauchi State, Hon. Usman Abubakar Tuggar, is expected to be sworn in at a later date.
The Commission said it remains committed to providing accurate, credible, and inclusive demographic data to support Nigeria’s development objectives.
