Nollywood actress and producer Toyin Abraham has joined growing public calls for stronger action against rising insecurity in Oyo State, warning that no family should wake up to news of violence and bloodshed.
In a statement posted Thursday, the actress said the spate of kidnappings, armed robberies, and attacks in parts of the state had left residents living in fear and demanded that authorities move faster to protect lives and property.

“No family should wake up to news of violence and bloodshed,” Abraham said. “We cannot normalize this. Our people deserve to sleep with their eyes closed and go about their daily lives without fear.”
She urged the Oyo State government, security agencies, and community leaders to improve intelligence gathering, increase patrols in vulnerable areas, and engage local communities in safety efforts. Abraham also called on citizens to cooperate with law enforcement by sharing credible information.
The intervention adds to a wave of public outcry from residents, civil society groups, and traditional leaders over recent security incidents in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, and surrounding towns. Many have criticized the response as slow and inadequate.
Abraham, a native of Oyo State, said her comments were not political but a plea from a concerned citizen and mother. She pledged to use her platform to amplify victims’ voices until concrete steps are taken.
“Fame means nothing if I can’t speak for people who feel unheard,” she said. “This is about keeping our state safe for everyone.”
The Oyo State government has repeatedly said it is working with federal security agencies to address the situation, citing recent deployments and community policing initiatives. Police authorities in the state could not be reached immediately for comment on the latest calls for action.
Insecurity has become a leading concern ahead of the 2027 general elections, with analysts saying public pressure from high-profile figures could force faster policy responses.
