The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Delegated Legislation, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has urged government at all levels to stringently implement not less than 40% political representation for youths to make them relevant in governance and politics.
The ranking federal lawmaker, said this remains the best way to foster solid working relationship between them and government, to avert frosty relationship that can ignite mistrust and protest capable of destabilizing the nation.
At the home front, Bamisile saluted the intellectually sophisticated youths of Ekiti State over their solid backings and surfeit of contributions to the achievements recorded by Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the last two years, saying this wouldn’t be taken for granted by the All Progressives Congress-led government.
Bamisile said these in a statement in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, commemorating the 2024 edition of the International Youth Day.
Bamisile, who is representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency, posited that the patriotic spirit of Ekiti youths was boundless, which he said they manifested with their unanimous decision to shun the recent nationwide protest to avert wanton destruction in the state.
The ranking member of the House of Representatives, urged the youths to continually display unflagging loyalty to the progress of the state for their future to be brighter and for them to gain reckoning in the building of enduring democratic culture for Nigeria.
On the import of the celebration, Bamisile acknowledged that the global community was cognisant of the pivotal role being played by youths in the development of any nation, describing the day as apt and worthy of being celebrated in grandiose fashion to give the youth population their deserved respect.
However, Bamisile restated that the youths will truly earn such exalted celebration when they exhibit hardwork, patriotism, shun drug abuse and imbibe a sense of dedication to nation building, which was expected of their population under the 21st century democratic setting.
Specifically, Bamisile added that the state government, critical stakeholders, both political and apolitical as well as APC leaders across the state will continue to celebrate the youths for showing immense interest in he success of Governor Oyebanji’s administration.
“Let me on behalf of my family congratulate the youth population of Ekiti State on this worthy celebration. With this celebration, it was lucid that our youths had gained global recognition that transcends the shores of any nation.
“But for you to really earn this respect, you must make yourselves relevant in the scheme of things by galvanising your enormous capacity and numerical strength to dictate the pace of democratic growth globally.
“The foregoing can only be actualised when you shun criminal tendencies like drug abuse, banditry, kidnapping, internet fraud and other nefarious acts that are demeaning the qualities of youth and depleting their recognition”.
