Dele Alake Makes List As MIPAD Names 2026 Top 50 Most Influential People in Solid Minerals

The initiative comes amid rising global demand for minerals essential to the energy transition, advanced manufacturing, and digital technologies. MIPAD said the list underscores Africa’s expanding role in mineral supply chains and emphasizes local beneficiation, value addition, and sustainable sector growth driven by capital, policy, and technology.

MIPAD described the list as both a recognition platform and a “curated gathering” of operators, policymakers, investors, and technology leaders. The 2026 honorees will reconvene during the United Nations General Assembly to deepen collaboration, advance investment discussions, and strengthen global partnerships.

The 2026 list builds on MIPAD’s Solid Minerals Roundtable convened during the 2025 UNGA, which brought senior stakeholders from government, industry, and finance together for dialogue on investment, policy alignment, and Africa’s role in the global critical minerals landscape.

The announcement coincides with increased focus on mining-led growth in Nigeria. Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake said recent reforms have attracted over $2 billion in processing investments and generated ₦68.1 billion in revenue in 2025. Nigeria is scheduled to host the Solid Minerals Excellence Awards (SOMEA) on May 14, 2026.

Nigerian mining entrepreneur Oluwatope Oluwadarasimi, who advocates for local value creation in the sector, is among the new generation of leaders cited as examples of the industry’s direction. “Africa’s minerals must create African wealth,” Oluwadarasimi said.

MIPAD is a global civil society initiative launched in support of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (2015–2024). The organization identifies high achievers of African descent worldwide across public and private sectors.
