
A train mishap on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor on Monday left several passengers injured after a technical fault disrupted operations, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has said.
Providing details of the incident, the Managing Director of the corporation, Kayode Opeifa, explained that the situation occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Asham Train Station due to a coupling failure between a locomotive and a passenger coach.
According to him, emergency responders moved swiftly to assist affected passengers, who were later taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while confirming that no deaths were recorded.
Following the development, the corporation activated its emergency protocols and deployed technical personnel to the scene to stabilise operations.
In addition, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has commenced a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the fault.
Subsequently, the train continued its journey and arrived at Idu Train Station behind schedule after the damaged components were detached.
Reassuring passengers, the NRC stated that ensuring safety across the rail network remains a top priority while efforts are ongoing to prevent similar occurrences.
