President Bola Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the Federal Capital Territory council polls and the by-elections conducted in Kano and Rivers states, describing their success as a call to responsible leadership.
In a goodwill message, Bola Tinubu urged the elected officials to govern with humility, patriotism and dedication, stressing that the mandate given by voters should be treated as a sacred trust.

Reacting to the political outcome, the president praised Nyesom Wike for what he called notable development strides in the territory, saying the progress had translated into electoral gains for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to a statement signed by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also congratulated the party’s national and state structures in Kano and Rivers for their performance at the polls.
Commending the electoral atmosphere, the president applauded the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and voters for ensuring peaceful voting across the affected areas.
Highlighting democratic values, Tinubu noted that active participation and healthy competition strengthen the nation’s political culture and urged the electoral body to sustain improvements in future exercises.
Across the FCT, elections were held in all six area councils for chairmanship and councillorship seats, while supplementary polls took place in selected constituencies in Kano and Rivers states.
Official declarations showed the APC winning chairmanship contests in Abuja Municipal, Kwali and Bwari councils, while Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party secured victory in Gwagwalada.
The returning officer for the council poll, Philip Akpen, announced that Kasim scored 22,165 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Yahaya Shehu of the APC, who polled 17,788 votes.
