Zulum Breaks Silence on Report of Defection to ADC

The governor made the clarification in a statement issued on Sunday in Maiduguri by his spokesperson, Malam Dauda Iliya.

Zulum said the rumour, which originated from some online platforms, suggested that he and five unnamed governors were planning to leave the ruling APC — a report he said was baseless and meant to mislead the public.

“We are aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report alleging that I plan to defect from the APC to the ADC alongside five other governors. This is completely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” the governor stated.

He said the rumour was the handiwork of political detractors who have not contributed meaningfully to the development of Borno State or Nigeria.

According to Zulum, such reports are aimed at distracting his administration from the ongoing efforts to restore peace and rebuild communities affected by insurgency.

“My loyalty to the APC remains firm, and my commitment is to the welfare and progress of Borno State. We are focused on consolidating the gains already recorded in the state,” he said.

Zulum urged the public to disregard the rumour, stressing that his administration is too occupied with governance to engage in what he described as “cheap politics.”

He also advised media organisations and members of the public to verify information from credible sources before circulation, to avoid promoting misinformation that could cause unnecessary tension.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to serve the people of Borno State under the platform of our great party, the APC,” he added.
