Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin-Aluko Ajisafe, has urged workers engaged by the state government for sweeping the major roads in Ekiti State not to lose sight of the reason why Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji in his generosity, doubled their salary.
Aluko, made this known while addressing a cross-section of the sweepers during a recent meeting held at the premises of Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKS-WAMA) in Ado Ekiti.
Erelu urged them to collaborate with the workers responsible for collecting refuse placed on the medians. She cautioned them against leaving their designated areas before the Garbage Compactor Trucks arrive, emphasizing that they should wait for the trucks to sweep the remnants of the dirts the workers with the Compactor Truck couldn’t pack.
She stressed that Governor Biodun Abayomi increased their salary to motivate them to perform their job effectively, aiming to achieve a clean, healthy and epidemic-free environment in Ekiti.
Earlier, the Director-General of Waste Management Authority (EKS-WAMA), Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede, informed the commissioner that the workers’ salaries had been paid up to date, and all their demands to make their work easier had been met.
Speaking on behalf of over 600 sweepers at the meeting, Mrs. Felicia Oni, Mrs. Elizabeth Ajayi, and Mrs. Tolani Sobowale thanked Erelu Tosin-Aluko Ajisafe for the meeting. They promised that the workers would do their best to achieve the desired result expected by the Ekiti State Government led by Mr. Biodun Oyebanji. They expressed joy over the increase in their wages, confessing that they were not expecting the governor to surprise them in that way.
The sweepers, who joyfully sang for Governor Biodun Oyebanji, also praised the commissioner with different dialectic songs.
After the meeting, the Commissioner proceeded to the site where new Dino bins were being constructed to inspect the progress of the work.
Erelu urged the engineers to expedite actions and ensure the job is delivered soonest. The engineer, who assured the commissioner of prompt delivery, said efforts were in top gear to assemble the materials used for the construction of the Dino bins.
Present at the meeting, and accompanied the commissioner to inspect the Dino bins being constructed, were the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Babatunde Alokan; the Director-General of EKS-WAMA, Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede; Technical Adviser to the Governor on Green Economy and Ecological matters, Dr. Akinyemi Akinyugha; the General Manager, EKS-WAMA Engineer Ayoola Osalusi, and other top management officers.
