Works Minister, Umahi Commends Oyebanji’s Infrastructural Drive, Tasks Engineers On Discipline, Innovation

Umahi made the call in Ado-Ekiti at the closing ceremony of the 30th National Council on Works (NCW) themed “Discipline, Transparency and Innovation in Engineering Practice,” hosted by the Ekiti State Government.

The Minister, represented by the Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his outstanding performance in infrastructure delivery, describing Ekiti’s transformation as a model of effective governance.

He said the forum offered an important platform to shape infrastructure policy and deepen professionalism within the engineering sector, noting that its theme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s vision for transparency, accountability and innovation in public service.

His words, “Discipline in the civil service ensures public servants act responsibly and uphold professionalism, thereby maintaining public trust.

“Transparency means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. When transparency is institutionalised, trust is built, value is delivered and lives are improved.”

He further charged the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to strengthen ethical standards and enforce compliance with professional codes of practice.

“The challenge before us is clear. We must be champions of transparency and advocates of innovation not only in words but in action. Let us serve the Nigerian people with discipline, integrity and excellence”.

In his welcome address, Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using engineering as a tool for economic growth and sustainable development.

The Governor appreciated President Tinubu for his ongoing support in rehabilitating federal roads across the state and disclosed collaborative efforts on key routes such as Ado–Iworoko–Ifaki, Aramoko–Ado and Ido–Ifaki corridors.

Oyebanji also urged engineers across the country to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and excellence.

“We have embarked on a road revolution across Ekiti, but we recognise there is still much to be done. We must keep investing in infrastructure, support innovation and research, and strengthen collaboration between government, industry and academia”.

On his part, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Works, Adesola Adebayo also reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal across Ekiti, stressing that road development remains a critical driver of state and national growth.

Adebayo noted that the theme of the meeting aligns with the state’s shared mission to build a resilient and safe road network, adding that his ministry will continue to prioritise road rehabilitation projects that enhance accessibility, stimulate economic activities and connect communities for inclusive development.
